Elder Abuse involves various types of crimes that affect people of all ages but when the victim is 65 years old or older, it is called Elder Abuse and the penalties are stiffer for the criminal. The victim between the ages of 18-65 years is considered a dependent adult.
Elder Abuse is the neglect, exploitation or “painful or harmful” mistreatment of anyone who is 65 or older. It can involve physical violence, psychological abuse, financial abuse, consumer scam, isolation, abandonment, abduction, false imprisonment, caregiver’s neglect and unlawful taking of an elderly person’s money or property.
